Published package prices from the clinics we checked that publish them (19 of the 56 clinic locations across 10 cities), as at September 2026. Few clinics publish FUT prices. Some prices exclude GST or a theatre fee. Cost of a set number of grafts: 1,000 2,000 3,000 4,000 5,000.
How clinics price a hair transplant
Most Australian clinics quote a package for a set number of grafts, for example "up to 2,000 grafts". A few publish a price per graft or a table for every 100 grafts. Many only publish a "from" price and give you a real figure after they have assessed your scalp.
- "Up to" packages. You pay the package price whether the doctor places 1,700 grafts or 2,000. Ask how many grafts they expect to place for you.
- Per graft pricing. Worked out from published packages, published prices work out at $2.38 to $12.00 per graft, and most sit at about $4 to $9. Bigger sessions usually cost less per graft.
- Doctor-performed or technician-led. Some clinics have a doctor perform most steps; others have trained technicians or nurses do much of the extraction and placement under a doctor's supervision. Prices differ, so ask who does what.
- GST and extra fees. Most published prices include GST but not all do. One clinic we checked adds a theatre fee of $1,100 on top of its graft price.

Beard and eyebrow transplant prices
Beard and eyebrow work uses the same FUE technique on a smaller area. The "from" prices published by the clinics we checked are $4,000 to $10,000 for a beard and $3,500 to $5,500 for eyebrows. See the beard transplant and eyebrow transplant guides.
What is and is not included
- Consultation. 28 of the 56 clinic locations we checked advertise a free consultation. Where a clinic publishes a consultation fee, it is between $50 and $200, and some credit it against the procedure.
- The procedure day. Local anaesthetic, extraction, placement and the facility are normally in the package. Check for a separate theatre or facility fee.
- Medication and aftercare. Some packages include medication, a wash kit and follow-up visits for 12 months or more. Others charge for them separately.
- Add-ons. Treatments offered alongside a transplant are usually extra. Ask what the evidence is before paying for them.
Medicare, insurance and paying for it
A hair transplant for pattern hair loss is cosmetic, so there is no Medicare rebate and private health funds generally do not cover it. How much is a hair transplant in Australia?
For 2,000 to 3,000 grafts, the published FUE package prices we found run from $5,500 to $19,300. Smaller hairline sessions cost less and large sessions of 4,000 grafts or more can pass $20,000. Your own quote depends on your graft count, the method and who performs it.
How much does a hair transplant cost per graft in Australia?
Worked out from published package prices, the clinics we checked charge about $2.38 to $12.00 per graft. Larger packages usually cost less per graft, and doctor-performed procedures usually cost more than technician-led ones.
Is a hair transplant tax deductible or claimable on Medicare?
Cosmetic hair restoration for pattern hair loss attracts no Medicare rebate and private health funds generally do not cover it. Hair loss from burns, injury or disease can be assessed differently. It is not usually tax deductible as a personal medical expense. Ask your accountant about your own situation.
